While these specifications can be found in many laptops, some setups out there represent a better value for money and potentially smoother functionality.

![]() Improving your grammar, vocabulary, and speaking ability has been made easy with Elsa Speak. The app is set to assist individuals struggling with the English language. You can download it through the App Store, or visit for more information.Elsa Speak is a free-to-install mobile app developed by ELSA Speak and released in February 2016. Value for money, plus it has a 7-day free trial!Īll the images (including feature image) are screen shots from the ELSA Speak app. Recommended for students who want to practise the individual sounds of English. However, sometimes the description of how to make a sound isn’t enough – a video demo would be better. Maybe I’m just bitter that I’m only 91% accurate… I think the next stage for the developers is to work out how the app can recognise and accommodate features of connected speech. Looking at the detailed script, it looks like some of the parts I got ‘wrong’ (like in number 8) were probably just contractions. This feature gives you some pretty interesting feedback – I’m pleased with my 54% /l/ versus /r/ accuracy! That whole isolated sounds comment above isn’t true when you do the assessment. There should be some way to prevent you just saying the isolated sound – I did find something similar with Duolingo at times when learning Spanish, but that was a few years back. For learners, the desire to understand and use the whole phrase may compensate for this. Once you work this out then the tasks become more like practise of isolated sounds. It doesn’t take long for lazy people like me to realise that the app is just listening for the target sound, and the phrases are therefore arbitrary. With most activities you see that the target sounds appear in phrases. The developers could look into this though. It’s awkward that the app is based on one particular model of pronunciation but hey, I suppose you’re opening a can of worms if you broaden the scope to accommodate all acceptable variations of a sound. The progress section (see above images) makes this ‘Native Speaker Score’ fairly prominent. Part of the app’s selling point is the progression towards attaining native-speaker like pronunciation. There is still quite a lot that could be done to this app. It’s fairly priced – I’d say there is enough to keep a user focused if you chose a 3 month signup (about $3.50 a month). The progress record is great, plus in general the app is easy to use, visually pleasing and has been designed intuitively. The app is gamified which definitely adds something – especially if you’re a Brit trying to put on an American accent (hehe). There are a lot of activities that focus on common difficulties such as /l/ versus /r/ and distinguishing between long and short vowels, both of which are useful in my context. You get tips on the articulation of particular sounds, and you get a chance to put this feedback into practice straight away: The instant feedback is the best feature by far. I say promise – on the ELSA Speak site they state that the app has already been used 40 million times, so it’s clearly taken off! I wouldn’t say it’s the finished article yet though. The app maps your progress, records words and phrases you have difficulty with so you can review them, plus it provides an assessment feature too. On the pronunciation side, the dictionary also acts as a phrasebook – you can type in what you want to say and the app will model the correct pronunciation for your phrase: It has a dictionary too, where it provides definitions, pictures and example sentences (plus a pronunciation model) to explain various words. listening tasks for discrimination, plus some of the dialogues are performed as if they’re a real conversation. You can listen back to a recording of your voice, and read/listen to instant feedback on your performance. The app models the correct pronunciation then records your attempt. A bulk of the activities involve recording phrases like the one above. You can choose the skill (sounds) you’re interested in. The phrases are topic related (introductions, family, business, food and drink, etc) so not only can you improve your pronunciation, you can also learn phrases that are relevant to your own context. Most activities involve recording yourself saying a word or phrase. With ELSA Speak you can work through a wide range of activities which mainly focus on the individual sounds of English. ![]() It’s a great use of AI in language learning – it really is amazing what some of these apps can do now! It’s an app that teaches you to ‘pronounce English like an American through real-world conversations’. Now that’s out of my system, here’s a review of ELSA Speak. The suggestion of Haltus Kain is to remove the drills and make the manipulator upgradable. Just found this thread and there has been a big discussion about the matter manipulator and the role pickaxes and drill have in the game. Sorry for reanimating this thread but the idea and the pictures here are really good so i thought i will add my idea to this. I think that's fine, since upgrading it is optional. Many don't want the MM to be upgradable.I realise that It's likely devs have plans for making this tool upgradable - I just wanted to contribute some suggestions for it.It will never out-power an equivalent level pickaxe in speed, as to avoid breaking the pickaxe progression. I envision that the ability to upgrade the MM would be a convenience in mid-tier gameplay - providing ways to customize the beam for different situations or allow you to carry less tools.I've only played the beta up to tier 3, so I'm working by the materials I am familiar with. The crafting materials are an example only.I started thinking about ways in which the tool could be better utilized, and came up with a concept system for upgrading the MM and configuring it to your taste. ![]() Many have suggested the possibility of upgrading the manipulator - an idea which I like a lot. I really like the idea of this tool and its place in the Starbound universe, however unless you spend a lot of time building structures, you don't see a whole lot of it after crafting your first pickaxe. There has been a lot of discussion regarding the role of the matter manipulator. It was received well and got a lot of great follow-up discussion/suggestions. I posted this suggestion yesterday on the starbound subreddit. ![]() Top Countries Playing War Thunderīelow you will find stats on the top five countries by active daily participation. The relays are used to process signals, and can also be used as switches.Ī normal relay is an electrical device that works like an electrically operated switch, when the current reaches the relay coil, the open contacts get close, and the closed contacts get open. With the relays, it is possible to control a power much higher with very low power consumption. To see how this circuit works in real life, see the video below.Relays are constructive elements that make contacts and control some energy expenditure. If you want to shorten the time of the delay, you would choose a smaller resistor and capacitor value.Īnd this is how a delay before turn on circuit works with a 555 timer. So if you want to increase the time of the delay, you would choose a bigger resistor and capacitor. The bigger the resistor and capacitor value, the longer once you turn the power on, the LEDĭoesn't turn on until about after 7 seconds. There is a delay of about 7 seconds with this circuit. LOW, this is when the output goes HIGH and the LED turns on. When the voltage at pin 2 gets below 1/3 of the supply voltage, the pin is now LOW. As the capacitor charges up and gets near the supply voltage it is connected to, the voltage at pin 2ĭecreases. Since the trigger pin is active LOW, the output will be off until this pin goes Until the capacitorĬharges up, this pin is HIGH. This is because the capacitor hasn't charged up yet. The reason why the circuit doesn't turn on automatically is because pin 2, the trigger pin, initially when This network determines the length of time it takes to charge the capacitor. The combination of the resistor and capacitorįorms the RC network. ![]() How this circuit works is through the RC network. Therefore, we connect the LED along with the 470Ω resistor. So in order for reset not to be triggered, we We connect pin 4, the reset pin, to the V CC. We connect pin 6 to pin 2 and then connect a 47K resistor to ground. We connect a 100μF capacitor to the positive voltage supply and then to pin 2. To connect power to the 555 timer chip, we connect about 5-15V to V CC, pin 8 and we connect pin 1 to ground. The 555 timer delay before turn on circuit we will build is shown below. In this circuit, we will connect the 555 timer to produce a delay before the output goes HIGH. If you want to know all the pinout of the 555 timer in full depth, what each pin is and what each pin does, (V CC), the timing cycle ends, and the output on pin 3 goes low. When this voltage reaches 2/3 of the supply voltage The purpose of this pin is to monitor the voltage across the capacitor that's discharged by pin 7. If it is momentarily grounded, the 555 timer's operation is interrupted and won't start again until it's triggered again via pin 2. Thus, pin 4 must be connected to the supply voltage of the 555 timer to operate. This is an active low input, just like the trigger input. This pin can be used to restart the 555 timer's timing operation. The output pin is where you would connect the load that you want the 555 timer to power. ![]() The output is either low, which is very close to 0V, or high, which is close to the supply voltage that's placed on pin 8. When the 555 is triggered via pin 2, the ouptut on pin 3 goes high. The trigger isĪn active low trigger, which means that the timer starts when voltage on pin 2 drops to below 1/3 of the supply voltage. It works like a starter pistol to start the 555 timer running. The only other pins we use are the trigger pin, the output pin, the reset pin, and the threshold pin. We connect this voltage to the V CC pin, pin 8, ![]() The 555 timer requires a power supply voltage of 4.5-16V. The pinout of the 555 timer is shown below. The 555 timer can be obtained very cheaply from pretty much any electronic retailer. Basically the capacitor takes time to charge up. How we achieve the delay effect is through the use of a capacitor. Once these few seconds pass, then the output turns on.Ī delay circuit can be useful for any circuit that needs a delay before output turn on. For this circuit, it's a few seconds delay. In this circuit, we will show how to build a delay before turn on circuit with a 555 timer chip.Ī delay before turn on circuit is a circuit that once you apply power to it doesn't turn on the output right away. How to Build a Delay Before Turn On Circuit with a 555 Timer
The bottom line is you don’t need to code, or to be a coder, if you want to create animations or prototypes on it. However, at the same time, with adequate practice, anyone can learn to create prototypes and animations on it. To some extent the answer is yes, because non-technical people might not grasp the tool as well as technical people. You can keep editable Bezier paths and text by importing sketch layers as native kite layers. Import from Sketchįurthermore, Kite lets you import Sketch’s design using its native import feature. Kite’s unique features like layer modification, text properties, shadows, etc., are worth using over existing designs. In case you have a design or prototype ready in Adobe XD, you can import it into your Kite to polish your work further. Kite Compositor with Other ToolsĪnd it’s not just Kite’s features that add convenience to your job, you can Integrate it with other tools and import your work from there. Once you start using this amazing tool yourself, you will understand the luxury and convenient it brings to your app designing process. I have only mentioned the most important ones. Instead, you can drag and drop from the library in which you had saved it.Īnd the list doesn’t end here. If you have designed something similar before, you don’t need to redesign it. Like colors, animation curves, image filters, etc. It features a powerful object checker through which you can edit the properties of all layers with just a few clicks. This makes the prototyping process simple and clear. You can also divide the design into multiple pages with each page having its own timeline. This is a real time-saving feature for developers who prefer modifying existing codes over creating from scratch. You can also generate code for your document and later perform changes in the auto-generated code as per your requirements. This includes editing the animation in real time, like adding new layers, changing properties, etc. Programmers with expertise in JavaScript can add logic to their animations. Kite allows you to render graphics in real time, this is possible due to its Core Animation compositing engine. Many animation and prototyping tools lack this feature. Also, you can change the look and feel of the background color to experiment with new color combinations. Kite allows you to display your design in demo playback mode in your preferred size. There are so many options available in the menu bar, one can easily utilize the relevant option to implement his idea. This option comes handy when you are trying to hide or show a bunch of items at once. When required, you can drag them in the timeline or to a different layer to reparent them. Draggable AnimationsĮven animations are draggable. Instead, you can drag and drop the element you want to embed in your prototype. The tool features draggable elements, so you don’t have to design them from scratch. All due to the freedom and resources to create perfect sample versions. Talking from a mobile app developer’s perspective, kite Compositor simplifies the prototyping process. # What are the Core Features of kite Compositor? Developers use it to create prototypes, which is different from creating traditional animations yet similar skills are required. If you’re someone with a technical background, you might use JavaScript scripting engine to further enhance your design. The tool features numerous basic building blocks like layers, animations, and actions to let its users assemble their interfaces interactively. It is built on Apple’s Core Animation framework, providing a plethora of options to create beautiful interface animations. Kite Compositor is an animation and prototyping tool developed by Joe Rhodes, former software engineer at Apple. These are designed to give stakeholders an idea about the final product, so both parties can agree on UX/UI and functionalities before the development process begins. Prototypes are the sample version of a mobile app. And when it comes to prototyping, Kite Compositor is one of the favorite tools of developers. You doubt the client is unable to state his requirements clearly.Īnd that’s when you think of designing a prototype first, before moving on to the development phase. You jot down the requirements, yet it seems vague. It is likely that the client has no idea about the components of an app. Imagine you are a mobile app developer and a client approaches you to develop an app for his business. ![]() The television series will attempt to “weave deeply drawn personal stories” with action and adventure set within that “richly imagined vision of the future.” Anchoring those stories will be Master Chief, played by American Gods’ Pablo Schreiber (pictured). (Photo by Elizabeth Goodenough/Everett Collection) Books, comics, and animated series further deepened the breadth of the franchise’s universe and history. New characters appeared to play off against the stoic Master Chief and the spin-offs further developed the Halo universe by featuring more story-driven first-person shooters or switching to other game mechanics like Real Time Strategy. Sequels followed - six so far with the latest, Halo Infinite, finally going live in December 2021 - and a surprising number of spin-offs. The game changed the perception of first-person shooters on home consoles and gave Microsoft its first huge win in that market when the game was released as a launch title for the original XBox. In that first game, Master Chief John-117, a genetically enhanced Spartan super-soldier encased in advanced armor, faces off against the Covenant for control of a Halo - a ring-shaped space station/super weapon created by an ancient and extinct race the Covenant worship as gods. Two years later, Showtime’s corporate parent, ViacomCBS, announced the series would instead be one that belongs on its rebranded Paramount+ streaming service. As Showtime Networks co-president Gary Levine put it at the 2019 Television Critics Association summer press tour, “Our challenge on this series was to take a video game and make it into a character drama that belongs on Showtime.” (See our guide to “ 47 Video Game Movies Ranked Worst to Best.”)īut Paramount+ hopes to buck that tragic big-budget trend with a series based on Microsoft’s epic game franchise Halo.
